Never Forget?

What Does Never Forget Mean For Us?

Never Forget?

I didn’t learn what that meant that day, I was too self-absorbed in my own life. It was something horrible that was happening far away and didn’t involve me.

I’ve spoken to many people after being medically retired from the Army. I found that sentiment to be more common than I had expected, across all social stratums.

What is it that we never forget?

First responders?

The evil act?

Unity? (Forgetting our pettiness and forgiving others?)

The last 3 years have been a heart-breaking time for me. In the truest sense of that word. There are many personal reasons, but one reason is that many have forgotten.

We focus on what divides us more so than I have ever seen.

Normally, we would honor heroes because they demonstrate with their actions the best in humanity.

They show us that our gifts, our talents, our blessings, and even our lives are not for us. They are for giving to others.

In spite of the major heartbreaks over these few years these simple truths I will never forget.

Our lives are passing.

Our loved ones are passing.

But most of all I remember,

We can still do something about it.

Be a hero.

Everyday.

Life is a gift and a challenge.

Our luxuries are the gifts given to us by those who sacrificed before us.

Our challenge is to make this world better for those who come after.

Never forget to live.

Never forget how valuable our lives are.

Make your life worth remembering by those who come after.

The most dangerous enemy of freedom is fear.

So inevitably the only way to maintain your freedoms or abilities, is to attack fear and embrace the challenge.

Fight to stave off the encroachment on your freedoms by exercising your courage everyday with the little things and the big things take care of themselves.

When you've exercised that courage muscle, built that habit, it becomes easier.

There is evil in this world, it's not far away. It's here. It's all around us.... it's in us.

For a short period of time, we forgot our petty evil habits and lived as good people.

There are heroes.

In every one of us.

We must nurture that inner hero every day.

What does Never Forget mean to you?
